Next Stop: Uptown

I attend an R&B Trivia Night every month hosted by my good friends Steph & DJ Twelve45 and last week's focus was on MY personal FAVORITE record label, Uptown Records. What Andre Harrell and Uptown did for hip hop culture has yet to be replicated. Puffy came CLOSE with Bad Boy, but Uptown's impact reached music, television, AND film. From 1986 - 1996, Uptown was the label to beat... first introducing the world to New Jack Swing and later, Hip Hop Soul.

This is part one of a playlist I put together... 41 of my favorite Uptown produced songs to take you through the weekend. You'll find everyone from Stephanie Mills to The Notorious B.I.G. here.

Hope you guys enjoy!

Oh, trust... there will be a part two later featuring Uptown's slow jams and ballads. ;)
